Average Medical Coder Salaries By Specialty

Do medical coders in some specialties receive higher salaries than others? It appears so, according to salary survey results recently published by the American Academy of Professional Coders.

Below are average salaries, by specialty, for the 10,000-plus AAPC members who responded to the 2009 survey.

Note: Other factors besides medical coding specialty could be affecting these averages, including number of respondents for each specialty, geographical locations, career experience and other factors not related to specialty.
